How to make a soulmate vision board for the relationship you want
A soulmate vision board is a collage of images and words that shows the relationship you want to build. It is not a picture of one particular person. To make one, choose the values you want to share with a partner, find images of everyday scenes that express them, add words in your own handwriting and put the board where you will see it. A board cannot bring a partner to you. It can keep what you want in view, and it works best when you pair it with one real action each week.

What is a soulmate vision board?
A vision board is a board or page where you collect images and words for something you want. A soulmate vision board applies the idea to love. In manifestation practice, people believe that focusing on the board helps draw the relationship toward them. That belief is spiritual, and there is no evidence for it.
There is a practical case for making one anyway. Choosing the images makes you decide what you want, and seeing them daily keeps that decision in front of you.
Do vision boards work? What the research says
Much of what gets quoted about vision boards is not real research. The story of a Harvard or Yale study in which graduates who wrote down their goals earned far more than their classmates is repeated widely. Librarians at both universities have looked for it and never found it, and Harvard Library calls it an urban legend.
Real studies point to a more useful idea. In experiments by Lien Pham and Shelley Taylor at UCLA, students who spent a few minutes a day picturing themselves studying for an exam started earlier, studied more and scored higher. Students who pictured only the good grade did worse than the first group. Picturing the steps helped more than picturing the result.
The psychologist Gabriele Oettingen found something similar about romance, which we cover in our guide on how to manifest your soulmate. These were studies of students and of goals in general, not of soulmates. The lesson for a board is simple: fill it with scenes of things you can do, and pair it with action.
What do you need?
- A board, a large sheet of card or a page in a notebook. A phone collage works too.
- Magazines, printed photos or your own pictures.
- Scissors, glue or pins, and a pen.
- About 45 minutes without interruptions.
How to make a soulmate vision board in 7 steps
1. Choose five relationship values
Start with words, not pictures. Write down the five things you most want a relationship to have. Examples are honesty, humor, calm, adventure, faith, family, independence and kindness. Five is enough to keep the board focused.
2. Turn each value into an everyday scene
A value is easier to picture as a moment. For each one, ask what it would look like on an ordinary day. This table shows how that works. The examples are ours, and yours will differ.
| Value | Everyday scene | Image to look for |
|---|---|---|
| Honesty | Talking something through at the kitchen table | Two cups on a table |
| Humor | Laughing while cooking a meal that went wrong | A messy kitchen, people laughing |
| Calm | A slow Sunday morning with nowhere to be | Morning light, a book, a blanket |
| Adventure | Setting off somewhere new with a small bag | A trail, a train window, a map |
| Family | A long table with people of every age | A shared meal, a full doorway |
3. Collect images of scenes, not faces
Look for pictures of moments and places. Leave out celebrity photos and pictures of a specific person. A board built around one face narrows who you notice, and looks say little about how a relationship will feel. We explain why in what will my soulmate look like?
4. Add words in your own handwriting
Write your five values and one or two short sentences in the present tense, such as “We tell each other the truth.” Your own handwriting makes the board yours.
5. Put yourself on the board
Add one picture of you doing something you love. A relationship has two people in it, and the board should show the life a partner would be joining.
6. Arrange it and place it where you will see it
Put your strongest value in the center and group the rest around it. Leave some empty space so you can add to it. Then keep the board somewhere you pass every day.
7. Pair it with one action a week
This is the step that matters most. Each week, choose one thing the board suggests and do it: accept an invitation, join the class in one of your pictures, or tell a friend you are open to meeting someone. Write the action on a sticky note and add it to the board.
What does a finished board look like?

How do you use it with a journal?
Once a week, look at the board for a minute and answer these in a notebook:
- Which picture did I move toward this week?
- What did I do that the person on this board would do?
- Is anything here no longer true for me?
- What is my one action for next week?
Can you add a soulmate sketch to a vision board?
Some people place a soulmate sketch on their board as a focal point, with the written Soulmate Story beside their journal. It is optional. If you add one, treat it as a prompt for reflection and not as a face to search for, and keep it alongside your values and scenes so the board stays about the whole relationship. You can see the style on our examples page. A sketch is made for enjoyment and is not a prediction.
What mistakes should you avoid?
- Building the board around an ex or a crush.
- Using only end results, such as rings and weddings, with no everyday life.
- Making it once and never looking at it again.
- Treating the board as the work. The weekly action is the work.

Vision board questions
What do you put on a soulmate vision board?
Put images of everyday scenes that show the relationship you want, such as cooking together, travelling or a quiet morning. Add words for the values you want to share, a picture of yourself doing something you love and one or two actions you plan to take.
Do vision boards work for finding love?
There is no evidence that a vision board attracts a partner. Research on mental imagery suggests that picturing the steps toward a goal helps more than picturing the result alone, so a board is most useful as a reminder of what you want and what you plan to do about it.
Should I put a specific person on my vision board?
It is better not to. A board built around one person, such as an ex or a crush, keeps your attention on someone whose choices you do not control. Build it around the kind of relationship you want.
Where should I keep a soulmate vision board?
Keep it somewhere you see every day, such as beside a mirror or above a desk. If you prefer privacy, a phone wallpaper or the inside of a wardrobe door works too.
How often should I update my vision board?
Look at it weekly and change it whenever it stops matching what you want. Many people rebuild theirs every few months as their picture gets clearer.
Can I put a soulmate sketch on my vision board?
Yes, if you treat it as a prompt and not as a face to search for. Place it beside your values and scenes so the board stays about the relationship as a whole.
