Questions to ask before a soulmate reading
The most useful questions for a soulmate reading are open ones about you and the relationship you want, such as what to look for in a partner or what you are ready for now. Questions that ask for a name, a date or a yes or no about one person give you the least to work with. Before you ask anything, decide what you hope to learn, and check the price and the refund terms.

What do you hope to learn?
Decide this first, because it shapes every question. Most people who book a soulmate reading want one of three things:
- A clearer picture of the kind of partner and relationship they want.
- An honest look at whether they are ready, and what might be in the way.
- A next step they can take.
Write your aim in one sentence. If a question does not serve it, leave it out.
Questions about the partner you are looking for
These help you describe a person by character instead of by looks.
- What qualities should I look for in a partner? This turns a vague wish into a short list you can use.
- What kind of person brings out the best in me? It points at how you feel around someone, which matters more than a type.
- What do I tend to overlook in the people I date? This invites an uncomfortable answer, and those are often the useful ones.
- What values do I need to share with a partner? Shared values matter more to daily life than shared hobbies.
- What kind of daily life would suit us both? It moves the picture from a first date to an ordinary week.
- What would I not compromise on? Knowing your limits makes early decisions easier.
Questions about your own readiness
These are about you, which makes them the ones you can act on soonest.
- What am I ready for now? A relationship, a slow start or more time on your own are all fair answers.
- What from my past is still shaping who I choose? It looks for patterns across relationships.
- What habit of mine makes it harder to meet someone? This keeps the answer practical.
- What do I need to feel safe with a new person? It helps you spot what to ask for early.
- Where in my life is there room for a relationship? Time and attention are part of readiness.
- What am I afraid would happen if it went well? This can surface a reason you have been holding back.
Questions about a future relationship
These look ahead without asking for a date.
- What could I do this year to meet people who suit me? It asks for actions, which you can check.
- Where am I likely to feel most like myself around new people? It points you to places worth returning to.
- What should I notice in the first few weeks with someone new? It gives you something to watch for.
- What would a healthy start look like for me? It sets a standard before feelings take over.
- How will I know a connection is worth my time? See also how to know if someone is your soulmate.
- What is one step I can take this week? End every reading with this one.
Which questions should you rephrase?
Some popular questions cannot be answered in a way anyone can verify. This table shows how to turn each one into a question you can use. The suggestions are our own.
| Instead of asking | Try asking | Why it works better |
|---|---|---|
| When exactly will I meet my soulmate? | What could I do this year to meet people who suit me? | You can act on it and judge the advice. |
| Is this person my soulmate? | What would a good relationship with someone like this need from me? | No reader knows another person’s mind. |
| What is my soulmate’s name or initial? | What qualities should I notice when I meet someone? | A letter cannot be checked. Qualities can be noticed. |
| Will my ex come back? | What did that relationship show me about what I need? | It keeps the focus on what you control. |
How can you judge the answers you get?
Be aware of how easily general statements feel personal. In 1948 the psychologist Bertram Forer gave 39 students what he said was an individual personality description. Every student received the same text, which he had taken from a newsstand astrology book. On average they rated it 4.3 out of 5 for accuracy. Psychologists call this the Barnum effect.
A simple test follows from it. When you hear a statement, ask whether it would fit most people you know. If it would, it tells you little about you. Give more weight to answers that are specific and to answers you can act on.
Is a live session or a written reading better for questions?
A live session, by phone or chat, is the format for asking your own questions. It is usually charged by the minute, so a short prepared list keeps the cost down.
A delivered written reading works differently. It is prepared from the answers you give on an order form, and you read it in your own time. Our own service is this second kind: a soulmate sketch and a written Soulmate Story, with no live session. With a delivered reading, the questions in this guide are ones to ask yourself before you order and again when you read it. The two formats are compared in soulmate reading vs soulmate sketch.
What should you ask the service before paying?
These six checks apply to any reading or sketch service, including ours.
- What is the full price, and is it shown before I enter payment details?
- Do I pay once, by the minute or by subscription?
- What exactly will I receive, and can I see a real example?
- How and when will it be delivered?
- What are the refund terms, and how do I ask for one?
- Does the service state that it is for entertainment?
Our answers are on how it works and in the refund policy. In a Pew Research Center survey, most US adults who consult astrology, tarot or fortune tellers said they do so mainly for fun. Going in with that expectation is a sensible way to get value from a reading.

Reading question answers
What should I ask in a soulmate reading?
Ask open questions about yourself and the relationship you want. Good examples are what qualities you should look for in a partner, what you are ready for now and what one step would help you meet the right people.
What questions should you not ask a psychic about love?
Avoid questions that ask for a name, an exact date or a yes or no about one person. No reader can verify those answers, and they leave you with nothing to act on. Rephrase them as open questions about what you want and what you can do.
Can I ask about a specific person in a soulmate reading?
You can, but treat the answer with care. A reader cannot know what another person thinks or will do. A more useful version is to ask what a good relationship with someone like this would need from you.
How many questions should I prepare?
Three to five is enough for a short live session. In a session charged by the minute, a short list keeps the cost down and leaves time for follow up questions.
Can I ask my own questions with a Sketch The One order?
No. A Sketch The One order is a soulmate sketch and a written Soulmate Story prepared from your answers to a short questionnaire. There is no live session, so the questions in this guide are ones to reflect on yourself before and after you read it.
How do I know if an answer is too general?
Ask whether the statement would fit most people you know. If it would, it tells you little about you. This tendency to accept general statements as personal is known as the Barnum effect.
